Text with colored background

David,

As others have noted, you could set up the text in a table cell and shade
the cell.

However, another technique is to define a text frame with a colored fill. I
like this because I can have more control over the placement and flow of the
text.

Note that if you try this technique, it's easier to create the frame and
enter the text, then re-select the frame and define the color fill you want.
If you define the frame and colored fill first, it's a bit freaky when you
enter the text as it is displayed with a white background - it turns out
that you can then just do ctrl-L to have FM "re-paint" the screen, thus
restoring the colored fill behind the entered text.

The unfortunate aspect of either method of doing this in FM is that your
text flows with the colored backgrounds will be distinct from one another --
and from the flow of the doc in general, so this may not work well for you
at all.

However, since you are in Marketing, I am thinking this could give you some
good flexibility with designing various types of marketing docs where you
might need to distinguish different areas of text from others in a single
doc.

HTH,

Subject: Text with colored background

Hello everybody,

Is there a possibility in FM to define a character style with a background
color? Objective would be to define a character style with a grey background
to mean a button in a software to click, for instance... Like in Word when
you highlight a text in yellow... has anyone done this before in FM v7.1 on
PC?

Thanks for your expertise!
