A final question about indexing and formatting same

Dear Framers:
I would like to thank the correspondents who helped so promptly with my 
previous request. The "save all open files" ; "close all open files" seemed 
to be the thing I was not doing. Colouring the reference pages sure was 
interesting...

Now my last problem before I pour concrete:

In multiple entries I am getting a systematic misformat
viz.

Ross, Robert .........215, 789, 790, 791, 792, 793, 794, 795, 796, 797, 798, 
800,     801, 802, 803, 804, 805, 806, 807, 808, 809, 964, 
1298,.......................................................................... 
1737

There should be only one leader of course, but where, oh where would its 
format direction be hiding?
