Rick,
The $ in a formula fixes a location. So, if you want to always use the same column but allow dynamic relative reassignment of the row, you'd refer to cell B3 as $B3. Likewise, if you want the column to be relative and the row fixed, it would be B$3; and if you want both column and row identifiers fixed, it would be $B$3.

Hi Rick,
I don't think there is. However, if what you are trying to do is enter that
formula in several cells, you don't need it. If you move or copy that
formula into another cell, it will automaticlly update to the new row and/or
column number of the new cell. And you can copy it to several cells at a
time. Copy the first cell, then hightlight the cells you want the formula
in and paste. Make sure you are copying the cell, though, not the text in
it.

Subject: OT: Excel Question
Hello Framers,
I am using a formula in Excel to sum the values in a row:
=SUM(B2:F2)
Is there a way to use a generic row reference in a formula? For example, I
don't know for sure at run time if the data and formula is going to end up
in the second row. What I want is something like this
=SUM(B#:F#)
where the # sign would indicate the current row containing the formula.
Thank you very much.
