Xrefs in text insets

Hello Framers,
 
I am struggling with crossreferences in text insets. I know it has been an issue more often, I have been browsing the archives, but I cannot find a conclusive answer.
I hope there is someone how can shine some light on this problem.
 
I am taking about FrameMaker 8 and windows XP.
 
The following is the case:
I have a doc A with a crossref marker and a doc B with a crossreference pointing to the marker within doc A.
Both files are imported in a containing document.
The format of the Xref is set to display the paranum, paratext and the pagenum.
It shows these items, but not the numbering from the containing document, it is the numberings from the inset-file.
 
I should expect FM to take over de variables from the containing document so with the reuse of the textinsets in different containing docs, you dont need to look after xrefs anymore.
But maybe this is not correct to expect?
 
In the archives I read about creating conditional text to make these xrefs work, but I am not sure this is a solid solution or how I must do this.
 
I hope there is someone who can help me out!
