Epub Format -- pdf to epub conversion

Have any of you used or seen the use of the *.epub format in the technical writing communities? Also, do you know of Microsoft or Acrobat methods for producing the format? I couldn't find any information on the Microsoft site, and the Acrobat site mainly mentioned use of InDesign to produce the format. I downloaded an Open Document converter, but I would really like to just convert my PDFs to EPUBs, to test their useability on a Sony ereader.
My understanding is that PDFs don't by themselves automatically reflow text to make it more easily readable on an ebook screen, but epub files do.

TO continue this saga, I checked with my client this morning about the
Adobe PDF writer port. Her's is set exactly as mine is -- Port: My
documents\.pdf.
Just for grins I had her change the port to desktop\.pdf. She is going
to run a test.
I'll also try setting up a port just for file as had been suggested.
I need to check the log that gets generated with this next test as
well. And check to see if she has permissions to write to her desktop
though she is able to export data from our filemaker solution to the
desktop so I doubt that is a problem.

to postscript.

That's typical of the error message you'd typically get if the Acrobat
printer port is not set to a File port (in the operating system File:
with a colon, but not when you're discussing the generic kind of
file).
You've pretty much established that however her system is set up, the
Adobe printer instance is hosed. Time to try the Repair installation,
and if that doesn't fix it (don't be too surprised if it doesn't), do
a reinstall.

IIRC, FM 5.1 was released a scant few days before or after the acquisition.
In fact, sample documents that still ship with FM9 (Report.fm) still say
"Terramed enters 1995", which is how I remember the year of acquisition.

Adobe acquired Frame Technology about 1994-5, around the time that FM 5.0
