Cross Reference Issue

OS: XP Pro with SP3

This will either be simple or impossible to fix, but either way, I'm stumped.

I've created a cross reference that allows me to refer to a specific step within a list of instructions, but I have a small problem. The period that follows my step number is being included in the X-Ref - and I don't want it to be.

My instructions are defined as follows:

Instruction1 "<n=1>.\t"
Instruction+ "<n+>.\t"

My X=Ref (Instruction Step #) is defined as "step <$paranum>"

Using Special > Marker to insert the cross reference results in, for example, "step 13." And I don't want the period as part of the X-Ref.

Any suggestions?
