I separated the inside/outside front/rear covers into their own book,
created 8.5x11" pages. The images were created in Photoshop and are
8.75X11.25" and then I imported the images onto separate master pages
and saved book as pdf which I have sent to the two printers who are
providing Cost Estimates for my project and asked them to ask their
pre-press guys if the documents I am sending will print properly.
Neither printer has responded, and I don't have hopes I'll eventually
hear from them, so I want to make sure I get it right the first time.

The book will be 8.5 x 11" when finished but the pages are 17 x 11" and
are folded in half down the long side and will be stapled or saddle stiched.

Does this not mean that the outside front and outside rear have to have
the image trimmed on the "joining" side, i.e. the images should be
8.625" x 11.25" for a properly bleeded image?

Thanks.

hello all
i am in the process of designing a new template.
i am done with the chapter design (layouts, para+char etc)
now i am trying to make a template for the TOC using the chapter template.

i can generate a toc and then modify the styles etc, but that is not giving
me a proper page layout for the TOC. ideally i want to base the TOC on the
chapter template)

i do a save as of the chapter template as a toc.
add a disconnected page
then rename the toc file on disk as book_nameTOC etcv
then i generate the toc in the book
then i open the book_nameTOC file
nothing is working

can someone guide me please.

sorry if the question is repeated...

Shouldn't that be "Fewer words"?

You can import page layouts from the chapter file. File > Import > Formats.

Why would you want to do that?

That's a bit vague ...

I see what you're looking to do. Create a 2-page 11x17 cover file
then, with the bleeds around the edges only. That will avoid any odd
bleed effects at the fold.

You should have FM automatically create the TOC file and then import
your page layouts from the chapter file into the TOC, then modify the
TOC styles as needed to fit that layout. That's it.

The reason "nothing is working" is likely because per your process the
TOC file in your book contains no TOC elements on the reference pages
for FM to use in building a TOC. Best practice is to import layouts
into a generated TOC file.

You'll have the check your hierarchy and formatting of the TOC styles.
As for your previous question about layout, you apply master pages to
the TOC body pages just as you would with any file.

If you have the Chapter name in a different text flow, it will appear later
in the TOC. Connect the text flows to fix it. See the Frame documentation
for more details.

TOC entries occur in the order that FM finds them in the text flow. Is
your Chapter title in a separate text frame, or somehow arranged so that
it follows a Heading1 in the flow?

That's a very good point. I would never have thought to check if a
chapter name resided in a separate flow.
