FrameMaker 8 and saving documents that include conrefs

[Abungu, Salome (TTI Mpls)]

Hi! I'm new to using structured FrameMaker and DITA. I have a question about conrefs.  When I include a conref into a document (let's say the document type is a topic), it shows up perfectly as it should. However, when I save the document and reopen it disappears. Is this normal ?

Any help is appreciated!
