I'm currently running FM9 on 32-bit XP SP3 with no more than the
usual FM9 problems.  (I still use FM8 for real work.)  I would
*not* advise 64-bit XP, which was not ready for commercial use 
and lacks numerous hardware drivers you are likely to need.

Note that if you get Win 7 Pro, you can specify that some apps
run in "compatibility mode" for earlier versions, like XP.
However, this does not always work.  You can't run any 16-bit
apps, for example, even though they ran in the real XP.  But
32-bit apps mostly work fine.
