Jeff,

Windows will just be Windows with its stupid old letters for partitions.
If you have, say 4 HDs partitioned into 6 partitiones each (not very
practical) you have 24 partitions and each one needs a letter in Windows.
Letters A: and B: are reserved for floppies (which not many are using
today), so the first partition on the first drive gets the letter C: Then
you need letters for one or two CD/DVD drives taking D: and E: if you have
both. The USBs get the next ones usually, as they connect. So H: may not be
that high up. Network drives go up to Z: But given the extreme example
above, how would you go about assigning letters to network drives? ;-)

Really, Windows should, IMNSHO, go away from the drive letters (and setting
these for you automagically) as fast as possible and do what grown-ups do
(like UNIX/Linux, etc). It makes things so much easier to be allowed to call
the drives whatever you like.

Sorry for the rant, but there are still a few stupid stone-age things with
Windows, even if they have come a long way with most. I don't have Win7 and
haven't given it much thought, so I don't know if there are any changes
there in this area.

Best regards,
Bodvar Bjorgvinsson
