Good vector drawing software

I also use (and like) the various Xara products ... far more cost-effective than Adobe equivalents, although the yearly (or so it seems) upgrade prices leave a bit to be desired.

I have for many years been a very happy user of Xara Designer (under its various names over the years).  It is a competitor to Adobe Illustrator, but at half the price; at the moment, there's a 20% discount.
