Does it support AI files?

When I get mechanical dwgs from the engineers, they're saved directly from SolidWorks in AI format.

I have for many years been a very happy user of Xara Designer (under its various names over the years).  It is a competitor to Adobe Illustrator, but at half the price; at the moment, there's a 20% discount.
