To provide a helpful mnemonic,  the "JPEG" file format (abbreviated to 
"JPG" in earlier Microsoft OS) was developed by the Joint PHOTOGRAPHIC 
Experts Group (JPEG !!) for the specific purpose of defining a digital 
format optimized for "still images of PHOTOGRAPHIC quality." [emphasis 
added]
