In response to Message 5: compare two books:

Hi Theresa,

You can compare two books in PDF. I have Adobe Acrobat Pro XI. From within Acrobat: View -> Compare Documents opens the Compare Documents dialog box. Select the first document and the second document in their respective fields (Compare (older document) and To (newer document)). You should get a "report" that shows the differences. I hope that helps.

Wait, isn't this an argument *for* using Helvetica? After all, seeing a blank page would encourage people to stop using IE.

Just kidding, although I am proud to say that I haven't used IE in many, many years and have no intention of changing that behavior. It's unfortunate that a variety of circumstances have led to the use of a truly unfortunate piece of software as a key part of the user experience.

I use popchar to entry characters.

It works on MAC and PC.

Specifically:

"

This method works regardless of any of your language settings, but is the most cumbersome to type.

1. Press and hold down the Alt key.
2. Press the + (plus) key on the numeric keypad.
3. Type the hexidecimal unicode value.
4. Release the Alt key.

Alas, this appears to require a registry setting. It was already set on my computer, but some readers report that this method didn't work for them, and this is probably why. If you don't know what the registry is, please don't try this. Under HKEY_Current_User/Control Panel/Input Method, set EnableHexNumpad to "1". If you have to add it, set the type to be REG_SZ.

"

Works almost always... sometimes certain applications will get lost on the Alt+A (or B, C, D, E, or F) and trigger a menu shortcut. But FrameMaker's Find/Replace dialog does not.

David

In a text box, I know how to insert an ascii character, e.g. ALT+0169.
How do I insert a unicode character?

Using Find/Replace, how do I search and replace with unicode characters?

Hi Framers,

Is there a way to compare the content of two books? I'd accept being
able to compare the contents of two documents.

It would be OK to compare two pdfs.

Thanks,
Theresa
