Mif2Go suddenly failing on all machines

John,

I am not sure what you mean by “blocked” or “unblocked”? Where is this “Properties>Unblock” command capability? (I thought I knew Windows, but am now not sure where this is available …)

Anyway, in Windows, I can look at file properties using Windows File Manager (right click on a file and select “Properties” to get a pop-up window), and am including info on that DLL that you mention … as screen captures here. Hope these three images gets through to this list (also it should direct to your e-mail anyway), so that you can compare to what you are seeing – the machine and account names are different on my system, of course!

I still think one of my SWAGs about your PATH variable being the issue is the cause here (perhaps from the Calibre install/upgrade?) – but am guessing, of course! Some version of a Mif2Go executable or library is being found – i.e., not in the “…\Omsys\common\bin” tree – and the resulting search for other executables and libraries from that point are hosed.

Can you perhaps provide your PATH variable here for us to look at? Feel free to send it off-list in an e-mail if you want.

Z

Zeroing in on a solution, I think:
(famous not-last words)

One of the steps to take after installing Mif2Go is to go through the new .exes and .dlls and make sure they have write permission, preferably full permissions.
Along the way, I see that many/all of the files are blocked by Windows, which sometimes happens as a protective measure when adding files from a foreign ZIP.
Having unblocked all the files, I see that m2gframe.dll always regains its blocked status. It appears to respond to the Properties>Unblock command normally, but when I go back to check the file properties again, it's locked again.

Has anyone encountered this? Does it matter? (If you are successful generating output, is your m2gframe.dll file blocked or unblocked?

Yesterday I was generating a bunch of XHTML output with Mif2Go, when suddenly I started to fail with this error:
Mif2Go failed for file: C:\Project\Users_Roles.html
type 1, code 2, at: Wed Aug 13 15:46:36 2014
Could not run DCL filter or other program.
File not found.

It had worked fine just an hour before. Nothing had changed.
Nonetheless I rechecked all my environment variables and other common issues; they were all good.
Restarting the machine did not fix it. A complete uninstall/reinstall of Mif2Go did not fix it.
Today is does not work on two different computers with different files.

Is anyone else experiencing this?
It's as if my license has been revoked or some similar global denial of service.
