As a work around, is it possible to search on that format and tag it after
the fact using Default Font?
I agree that this is a serious problem.

Well, its all fine with SEARCH with Regex in FM-12.
However, there is a severe bug in REPLACE with Regeg: any constant part in
the replacement (e.g. the words in
gugus $1 nonsense
is inserted in 12pt Times New Roman, not observing any character format in
the target text!
