Text insets : if in same FM document more than once internal x-refs do not update

The text inset is resolving to a target marker that is the same marker in all cases. FM resolves to the first occurrence of the marker (Figure 3.1). I'm not sure how it could know how to resolved to multiple instances of the same marker other than by doing that since markers are all the same as far as FM knows.

Years ago, pasting text (not inserting a text inset) with the same marker, would duplicate the marker. You could link to that duplicate marker and get the second reference to appear in the text, but on generate of a book or an update all xrefs action the xref would revert to the first marker. This gave us fits, so now a paste of a duplicate marker results in it being deleted from the pasted text.

If all three xrefs are actually referencing the same figure in different places, I suggest you just include the figure once.

Have you seen this? I have a text inset that I insert into the same host document (chpt 3) three times. It has an internal cross-reference to a figure. When I update the host document the cross-references in the text
 insets all show the same Figure #. Instead of seeing see Fig. 3.1 and later see
Fig. 3.2, they all show see Fig 3.1.
 
The FM knowledgebase does say that a document’s external cross-references do not update correctly if the document targeted by the cross-reference is opened by a different user on the network.
 
I still don’t quite get it.
