[Framers] extra space - with adjacent formats in variables

Wow .. that's cool (except if you really don't want a space there). :-(
I found that if you add a space where you don't want one, the space
between the formatted chunks goes away, although there's still a visual
space (smaller though). If you add a thin space (\st), the space pretty
much goes away, and if you add a tab (\t) it seems to go away entirely
as long as you don't have a tab defined for that paragraph that would
affect this location. Might be other "metacharacters" that you could use
that will result in no visual space.
Definitely looks like a bug though.
