Stefan, I have used it for loose leaf publications to avoid to much reprinting.
Say, you have a publication of about pages and need to add one or two pages every 
quarter. It is not worth to print the whole thing each quarter, but once a year to 
start afresh.

Of course there is no such use if just pdf or other non-material output is created. 
Since I'm no more in business my last use dates back about 5 years.
