There is a work-around.
</span>

<ol>

<span>Open the character map app (in Windows, this can be found by default in Accessories> Ease of Access)</span>
</li>
<li>
<span>Select the apostrophe (the 6th char over in the top row) and click Copy.</span>
</li>
<li>
<span>Paste the apostrophe in the text. It will go in "straight", and should stay that way.</span>
