<p>When mysterious problems with fonts occur, it can also be considered to delete the Windows Font Cache file, so that all font informations are (correctly) rebuilt with the next system start.</p>

<p>It is very strange that the FM display is changing, even if the main font has no embedding option. I have never seen this before.<br />But in fact, some very old postscript fonts that worked well in Win XP might fail in Win 7.</p>

A client is seeing the following problem:

- FrameMaker 12, fully patched, Windows 7, full Acrobat.

- Document uses Helvetica font. Font pane shows all document fonts are 

available and in use (i.e., FrameMaker is not substituting any fonts).

- File>Save as PDF -- FrameMaker document reflows on-screen, with 

Helvetica replaced by Times New Roman. Generated PDF uses Times New 

Roman instead of Helvetica. (FrameMaker screen display refreshes and 

reverts back to Helvetica).

I'm baffled. I have yet to investigate:

- Missing "legal to embed" flag in client's Helvetica font?

- Corrupted Acrobat Distiller settings?

I would be grateful for any other ideas.
