FrameMaker 11 has ExtendScript<br>built in, so one clandestine way of adding productivity to FrameMaker<br>without plugins is to learn to write some scripts. ExtendScript is basically<br>Adobe's version of JavaScript on top of FrameMaker's object model. If you<br>don't want to write them yourself, you can purchase them from others. And<br>because scripts are compiled at runtime, you usually get the source code so<br>you can reuse parts and pieces in your own scripts. Your learning will make<br>things a longer term effort, but it sounds like your procurement process<br>takes time anyway, so you may as well be adding to your skill set as you<br>learn.<br><br>I am doing an Adobe Webinar next Wednesday on ExtendScript in FrameMaker. If<br>you have a particular task in mind and attend the webinar, I will make sure<br>you get the script at no cost, or in exchange for a small donation to the<br>Roswell Cancer Center in Buffalo. I welcome some good ideas for scripts that<br>I can demonstrate. In addition, I may be<br>bringing in a team of 3-4 writers and I want the files to be as clean as<br>possible. When you evolve to 20,000 pages of document from an initial 195<br>pages in 2 years, ya get careless at times.<br><br>Now...I'm in a very locked down environment, so I know I'm in for a<br>battle...this very well can be a 3-6 month project and I may loose.<br><br>Money is no object.
