Job Responsibilities:
 
* Prepares and updates Operation and Maintenance manuals for Hardware
Tools
* Creates and updates Technical publications for Manufacturing, Field
Service, Quality Assurance/Reliability, 
  Corporate Policies and Training
* Gathers technical information, prepares written text, and coordinates
layout and manual organization 
* Researches available engineering information such as drawings, design
reports, equipment, and test specifications
* Writes individualized copy of analytical, interpretive, or documentary
literature
* Interviews engineers and other technical personnel
* Ensures that the documentation is transferred through to production
and that any errors in this process are rectified
* Keeps track of tasks and ensure that these are in line with the
project plan
* Notifies the Manufacturing Technology Manager or Director of
Operations of any slip in the schedule or additional requests
* Is aware of statutory/legal (such as Semi and CE) information that
should be included in the company's documentation
* Enforces policy and version/number controls on all documentation
* Supports designated projects/products
* Continued professional development to highlight areas where knowledge
and experience should be acquired or enhanced.
* Follow departmental polices and procedures including, but not limited
to:
   - Engineering design standards
   - Configuration management
   - Sustaining engineering
   - Manufacturing engineering
   - Release procedures
   - Safety standards
 
Required technical experience
* Requires working knowledge of customer requirements, various company
products, purpose and structure of documents, 
  and user's level of understanding
* Four years plus of relevant technical authoring experience in a
company that manufactures or distributes 
  scientific instruments.
* Knowledge of semiconductors, semiconductor measurement tools and the
semiconductor industry is highly desirable 
  but not essential.
* Demonstrated experience of writing various Technical publications
including user (operation) and service manuals for 
  technical products
* In-depth knowledge of the following desktop publishing software:
   - Adobe FrameMaker
   - Adobe Acrobat
   - Adobe PhotoShop or Jasc Paint Shop Pro
   - Adobe LiveCycle Designer (desirable but not required)
 
Personal qualities
* Analytical and methodical with an attention to detail
* Flexible and positive attitude
* Self-motivated, shows initiative and common sense 
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with minimal
supervision
* Good written and verbal communication skills
* Willingness to gain knowledge of Nanometrics technologies, products
and markets (e.g. semiconductor industry).
* Ability to work with Engineers and other colleagues who are ESL
