partial page graphic lines won't print - RESEND

Peter,

You may or may not have received the email I sent to John Hogan in
response to his suggestion to fix the "optcgm.prf" file. In that email I
expressed my feeling that this problem is not with the cgm that I'm
trying to print, because I can place the cgm elsewhere in the file, and
the lines in the graphic will print just fine when I print a hardcopy on
my HP LaserJet 4050 printer, or if I create a pdf of the page using our
PDF995 distiller(?)(pdf maker); the lines in the graphic are visible on
my flat screen monitor all the time. However, if I put the graphic
(which "prints" elsewhere in the document) in a partial-page anchored
frame, the lines in the graphic do not print (are not visible) on a
hardcopy printed page or on the pdf of the page. IF I CHANGE THE FRAME
SIZE TO FULL-PAGE, the lines in the graphic do print (are visible) on a
hardcopy printed page and on the pdf of the page.

To respond to your other questions: when I print the hardcopy of the
page, I am printing from FM; when I refer to lines not appearing on the
pdf, I am talking about when I view a pdf copy of the page in Acrobat,
the lines are not visible on my flat screen monitor.

The printer type I mentioned above.

The unit of measure for the line width is "inches." 

ONE OTHER THING I TRIED TODAY:

In my FM document, this partial-page graphic is preceded by three
full-page graphics (cgm's)(all of which print just fine). I deleted the
"problem" graphic from the partial-page anchored frame, and imported (by
reference) a cgm of one of the full page graphics that precedes it. The
lines and text of the full-page graphic were visible (on my flat screen
monitor) in the partial-page anchored frame, but when I print a hardcopy
of the page on my HP LaserJet 4050 printer, the lines are not visible
and do not print on the page, only the text is visible and prints; the
same thing happens when I make a pdf of the page and view the page in
Acrobat.  IF I CHANGE THE FRAME SIZE TO FULL-PAGE, the lines in the
graphic do print (are visible) on a hardcopy printed page and on the pdf
of the page in Acrobat.

Hi, Jeffrey:

It's not clear if you're printing from FM, or from a PDF made from the
FrameMaker file. You've also not mentioned the printer you're using.
There's no unit given dimension 0.016 that you mentioned - is it mm,
points, inches, etc?

In Acrobat Help, search for Fix hairlines. This topic discusses the
problem of printing very thin lines to offset printers, and offers a
fix when printing from PDF. You may want to take a hint from this
topic and retry increasing the line width in the problem graphic to at
least one point to see if that prints correctly from FM. When printing
from PDF, the fix doesn't require changing line widths in graphics.
