Footnotes and frames

Hi, Tina:

If all your boxed insets are the same full-page size, you might solve
the problem by creating a custom master page whose main text frame
("tagged template text frame" in "Frame-ese") has a black border.
Import the outside content to the insertion point position, apply the
custom master page, move the insertion point to the line after the
inset, and insert a footnote. This will keep the footnotes operating
correctly.

If the footnote reference number needs to be below the black box
frame, create two template text frames on the master page; the main
one with a black stroke, slightly shorter than full-page height, and
the other below it, without a stroke. Connect them (see Help
"connecting text frames"). Import the inset into the bordered frame,
create a new paragraph in the unbordered frame, and create the
footnote in it.

This will take a little experimentation, but you'll be a much better
Framer-er for it<G>.

If the boxed insets vary in size and position, try to standardize on a
few models, and create a custom master page for each.
