FM 8 upgrade woes: some solutions

I'll second that... 8 is much more stable and doesn't leak memory
nearly as badly.

If you have enough RAM -- 1-2 G, 8 is patched, and the files aren't
funky.... 8 is the way to go.
And I've been back saving them to 7.1 and 7.2 since 8 came out; no problems.
