add tab stop in a cross-reference

Is it possible to put a tab stop in a cross-reference?

For example, I want my  <$paratext>, page <$pagenum><Default ¶ Font>  x-ref to have a tab stop (and leader) in front of the word "page".

This is not my formatting preference, but a request from someone who uses our docs a great deal to train others.
