Possible MIF -> FM bug in FM 8.02 (p273)

Diane,

This is very difficult to detect if you don't know what you are looking for.

The errors occur when you open translated MIF files in FM. In twentyone 2,000 word texts, there were all between 40 to 2 missing glyphs (Note: Glyphs, not characters) per language, except in four languages. If a word suffers from a missing glyph, there will be no extra space in the word, which makes it even more difficult to detect. Just browsing the pages is not enough to detect the errors. You must do a diff analysis, see below.

The missing glyphs are indeed present in the MIF file, correctly represented in ASCII, but if you open the MIF file in FM, then resave as MIF, the glyphs are gone in the MIF file. So it is the act of opening a MIF file in FM that seem to create the errors.

Our agencies detected the error by running a diff program between the FM texts and the translated texts from the translation tools. Several different workflows and translation tools were used, so, supported by the procedure in my OP, we fear this is not user-related, but a true bug.

Mats,

Among other things, I manage localization for my company. We use FM8.02.
We have not noticed any problems so far, but I'm epecially interested to
know the symptoms of the problem and if there are any workarounds. Does it
happen only when opening the files?

Thanks,

Yes, please share with the list -- that's _why_ there's a list.
