FrameMaker will not sort a table

Esteemed colleagues,

 

I'm making another attempt to find someone who may have an answer to this problem. My Frame 7.2 has stopped sorting tables. The Sort function is disabled in the Table menu. I've tried a number of remedies suggested by solicitous colleagues but to no avail. If any of you has seen or faced this problem, I'd appreciate any in sights you may have. I will re-install Frame to see if that solves the problem, but I'd like to know if there is a solution other than that, if only to determine what it is that I did to cause this. I've determined that the table has no conditional text and I've saved the document as MIF, opened it in Frame and saved it as an .fm file. Neither action worked.
