Auto-numbering figures across files

Heidi,
You mention that you've set the numbering properties, but you don't say
where you've set them.

For a book to increment across component chapters, you must set them in the
book, not in a chapter(s). Select all component chapters in the book file,
right click, select Numbering, and verify that the numbering property for
the Paragraphs tab is set to increment.

Then Save and update the book.
