Frame 8 bug

I'm not sure if the lck files are the source of your crash. It's possible that there is a conflict in the conditions themselves.

I agree with Syed that you should start by opening each book file and adjusting the conditional text settings individually. If there are any breaks in the structure of a particular book file (or if Framemaker crashes when you try to change the settings), then you might need to re-tag your conditions in that file.

Remember, you must ensure that a condition is enabled on a higher level element when tagging a condition on a lower level.

I hope this helps.

Thanks,

Andre

Very often, FrameMaker does "silent opens" of files - to update references, etc. If you do an Update Book, for example, the individual files inside the book will be opened automatically. These opens will create .lck files for those files as well as the book - even if you do not open the files yourself - while executing the update.

It is possible that there is something wrong with a given chapter file, causing FrameMaker to crash with the update you are doing. Then, depending on which files were open, some apparently "random" set of .lck files get left behind.

A simple thing to try would be to manually delete all the .lck files *before* you open the book and see if FrameMaker crashes with the Update Book that you are trying. If so, then the .lck files were not the cause - just the result of the crash.

Separately, it might be worth doing an update on each chapter file separately (to see if one of them has a problem) before an update of the book.

I believe that when you update your book file, if lck files exist for chapter files, Frame crashes. There should only be an lck file for the book file, not the individual fm files within the book. I only have the book file open and am trying to set the conditions for it, yet all these lck files from the frame chapter files keep opening and then Frame gets the dreaded Internal Error bug and crashes.

Thank you,

The .lck file is created *every* time any file - book or .fm - is opened by FrameMaker.

This is to prevent multiple simultaneous opens of the same file from different sessions of FrameMaker (local or on the network) by you or others.

They should not *normally* cause FrameMaker to crash ... just prevent the file from being opened again.

Are you using these files on a network? If so, it is possible that they get left behind inadvertently when the file is closed and appear to cause problems.

Generally speaking, if you know that you are the only person opening the file, you can delete the .lck files and proceed without concern.

Or ... am I misinterpreting what you mean by "cause Frame to crash"?

I am using Frame 8p277 XP version

Many times when I have a book file open, I change my conditions globally, and then update my book. Randomly, Frame seems to create *.lck files, and these lck files cause Frame to crash. Anyone know a solution to this problem?

Thank you,
