Unable to install RoboHelp plugin for FrameMaker

Hello Jay

I had a similar problem when setting up TCS2 on a new machine.

Two things:

1. Add the following line to the maker.ini file in your *local folder*, not in Program Files. That is (on Vista), <your profile>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker. If you add it to the one in Program Files it doesn't make a difference.
RH4FMver9=Standard,RH4FMver9,C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Technical Communication Suite 2\Adobe RoboHelp 8\RoboHTML\RHFrameMakerServer9.dll,all

2. When I did the above, it still didn't work. But there was a link at http://rjacquez.com/linking_framemaker_9_books_in/ (but I see it has disappeared). It talked about adding that same line with a 4 at the end (not sure exactly where the 4 was, and I've no idea what it does - maybe it was all4 at the end). I tried that and it worked. Then, strangely enough, when I checked the maker.ini file the line was still there, but without the 4 at the end. Go figure. This is described at http://groups.google.com/group/TCS-Users/browse_thread/thread/a558284607025e3e/afa8ac503925c710?lnk=gst&q=roger#afa8ac503925c710

One more thing (tech writers should never give definite numbers!): It seems to be important which app (FM or RH) you start first, at least for the first time. Try different orders.

Good luck. No, seriously. The sooner I can give up TCS2 the better.

Hope this helps.

Roger

Subject: Unable to install RoboHelp plugin for FrameMaker

I have TCS2 on a 64-bit Win7 system. I'm having the same problems that Anne discussed in this thread http://forums.adobe.com/message/3473915#3473915. I tried the modification to maker.ini that is listed in that thread, and I've tried reinstalling the FM9 and RH8 components from the TCS2 installation DVD. I'm still getting the "Unable to install RoboHelp plugin for FrameMaker" message. Like Anne, this is happening when I try to Link a book for FM file to an existing, empty project or when I try to Import the FrameMaker book from the RH Starter screen.

 Any ideas?
