FM10 special character

Hi Tim,

FrameMaker 10 still has the character palette (File > Utilities > Character
Palette), but the FrameMaker 9 (and above) window tends to steal the focus
from other windows. For example, if you try to bring the Console window to
the front, the main FrameMaker window will sometimes jump in front of it
before it is displayed. This may be what is happening when you display the
character palette. Try making FrameMaker's window smaller and then open the
character palette.

Speaking of the character palette, this is a pretty odd "application". When
you display it, and then click on the FrameMaker window or any other
application, it disappears. There is no evidence of it in the Windows task
bar, etc., and to redisplay it, you have to go back to the Utilities menu.
Did I mention that it is black with white text, making it hard to read. And
it has weird, non-conventional scroll buttons. I wonder if the FrameMaker
developers have ever seen InDesign's Glyph palette.

Subject: FM10 special character

We upgraded to FM10 this year and now I'm having trouble creating a special
character. I'm trying to create a right arrow, as in a chemical equation.
(I have the special toolbar, but it doesn't include this.) I can't seem to
get this symbol using the old FM8 method of using a character and applying a
"symbol" character tag. I looked online and it suggests using the character
palette, but I can't get that to open. It seems maybe that was in FM9, but
not included in FM10? Thanks in advance for any advice!
