Go here, and look for TreePrint:
http://www.cudspan.net/plugins/

It's free.  It gives you a CudSpan Doc Tools menu.  Select the root of the tree you want to expand or contract, and choose the command.

The only funky command in this is collapsing all attributes in a tree.  For some reason, you have to select the root you want to collapse (for attributes), choose the command, then click the attribute minus sign in that tree root.  Not sure why it worked out that way, but it works well enough for me, and it's free.

I also worked on an extend script for managing EDD work, but one of the features has a memory leak, and I haven't worked out why yet.  But that feature is a way to walk through the EDD to visit every instance of a given sub-element.  Somehow when it loads the list of elements, it never releases that data.  JavaScript is funny that way -- I have it lost in a closure somewhere...

Tooling for EDD development is underrated...  Folks should be working on this more.  I can't stand doing work like this without tools!
