Persist a variable to the next file

Hi John,

You can only do this "carry over" from another document with structured FrameMaker. It doesn't work with unstructured FrameMaker.

Nothing complicated about it:

<$paratext[ChapterTitle]>

I don't think the issue is the composition of the variable...it works fine when the page has a paragraph tag Chapter Title. The issue is when the para text doesn't appear in the FM file, but does in a previous file that I want to carry forward.

Can you copy & paste the code you have in your variable and send it to the list?

  Good afternoon, guys..

I have a book that uses the variable "Running H/F 1" in my footer that
  picks up Chapter Title.

The hierarchy is Chapter Title, Heading 1, Heading 2, etc,.

The problem is, for the sections that follow Chapter Title that start
  with
Heading 1, the variable displays blank.

The question is, how to I get Chapter Title to persist until changed by
  the
  next Chapter Title?
