seeking an elegant solution, somewhat OT

Hi John,

I have to manage a similar set of issues, as the software I document has a long list of open and proprietary software buried beneath surface. What I have taken to doing is listing the software library and its copyright date with a cross-reference to the software license that applies. Many of the software libraries are licensed using the same licenses, so I keep the license texts separate. The cross-references allows referencing from wherever it is needed. I don't know if anybody ever reads the document, but it satisfies the obligation.

Regards,

Brian

John... I'm assuming that you are writing about the components, rather than actually using them.

This sort of thing is always a pain: it's common for photographic material. You don't say whether you are using structured or not. If structured, it sounds like an application for attributes. If not, the only solution I've ever found is manually using something like an Excel spreadsheet.

Sorry not to be able to report anything more creative or elegant.
