Accidental Change All (am I alone?)

You are not alone. I use Resource Hacker to edit fmdlg.dll and remove the "A" shortcut from the Change All button. The button is still there, but you have to click on it, which is much less likely to happen by accident.

Many years ago, Rick Henkel made available a number of Frame dialogues that he had edited with this tool and posted info on where to download it. Ever since, I've used it to tweak dialogs to suit. I was recently surprised (and pleased) to discover it still works in Win8 and Frame 12.

The website is http://angusj.com/resourcehacker/. The tool is no longer in development, but you can still download it, or you might want to try one of the similar tools that the develope recommends. It's easy to use, just be sure to save off a copy of fmdlg.dll before you start. The hardest part is finding the dialogue you want to edit; the name of the Find/Change dialogue is Edit_Search.

Hi,

We have recently  had 2 incidents where the Change All operation was launched accidently - the dialog box is open and has the focus and the writer accidently, or in another goal, uses the ALT-A key combination. Change All is launched - no permission is asked and no Cancel or Undo is available. If working in a book, the changes are book wide! Can be catastrophic, believe me.

Have you experienced this? Do you know of any solutions?
