[Framers] source versioning

I'd appreciate some feedback on how you keep track of released versions
of FrameMaker documentation. We have been backing up and archiving our
source files to various servers, but it's only the product files (CHM,
PDF) that get committed to our versioning system Tortoise SVN
/Subversion. (SVN does not seem able to track version changes for FM
files.)
We're changing our help output to HTML using WebWorks Reverb help, and
we have run into issues committing the output to SVN.
Anyone have any suggestions for an alternative that could handle FM
source files ?
Thanks
