[Framers] Questions about import from Word

A few more details would help. :)
1. There's no fast way to replace images copied into a file with images
imported by reference. It's pretty much an image by image deal.
2. Fixing them how?
3. Did the text come through with the color intact, or are you applying
a tag to fix that it didn't come through? In either case, there is, as far
as I know (I know I'll be corrected if I'm wrong) no way to search for
color and no way to apply it without creating a paragraph or character tag.
If the color came through the conversion, then there should be a tag for it
that you can search for.
4. If the bold and italic didn't come through then there's not much
chance of "fixing it" other than searching for the words or phrases you
know it should be and applying it. Note that FrameMaker WILL let you
manually format things like bold and italic without creating character tags
for them, but it's generally Not A Good Idea. Best practise is to create
tags.
5. Fix the xrefs how? What's wrong with them?
The last few bits of a Word conversion, the general tidying up, as you put
it, are normally the most manually intensive ones. There aren't many ways
around it. Frankly, my personal experience has been that it is frequently
easier to convert the Word file(s) to pure text and just work from that,
but YMMV.
You might want to check out some of Rick Quattro's scripts. The
TableCleaner script is invaluable for converting and cleaning up Word
tables. The FindChangeBatchFormats script may also be of use, since it
renames tags for you and could be used to rename any imported styles from
Word to their equivalent Frame tags.
