Hi Roger,
as mentioned: there are other tools to convert Word to XML. One example is Convertoo (http://convertoo.net/ <http://convertoo.net/>) , from the makers of DITAToo. This tool will convert Word to DITA XML and does a very good job especially if your word doc is consistent in structure. Result is DITA XML that can be easily reworked in FrameMaker.
