Spot color generating process plates: addendum

A quick addendum:

When I specify the following settings from within FrameMaker...
- Print Document > Print Separations > Separations Setup
- Print as Process: Black
- Print as Spot: PMS032
- Don't Print: everything else

...Then print to separations, the resulting PDF is separated correctly.

But if I then print to a regular PDF, the spot color specified within  
FrameMaker still generates process plates. I don't understand this at  
all. Am I missing something obvious?
