Reinstalling FM9 (WAS: Problems with PDF creation since Windows update)

Nope.

I’m the only “Framer” here and I control (and do) all my installs. I’m also supposed to have complete administrative controls over my system, but I guess I should double check that.

Maybe that function is controlled by your IT department.

How do I “Deactivate” FM9 before uninstalling and reinstalling, if “Deactivate” is grayed out on the Help Menu?

Alison,

When installing FrameMaker, be sure to clear (deselect) the option to install the PDF Add-On that is included with FrameMaker. I’ve heard that the PDF Add-on causes problems if you subsequently install Acrobat (the full product).

One other piece of information…

When I try Save as PDF I get the following message: To execute "Save as PDF" command you must have Acrobat Distiller version 5.05 or higher installed.

When I open Distiller and look, the About Box says I’m using Distiller version 9.5.1283.

Thanks, that solved part of my problem as Print Book can at least see the Adobe PDF printer again, but it still won’t recognize any joboption files.

Does anyone know where FrameMaker looks for joboptions? I’ll copy them in manually if I have to – although I can’t figure out why they would go missing.

Alison and Laura,

I had an issue with Win 7 64-bit, FM 9, and Acrobat X. Win 7 32-bit prints fine.

Performing the following steps resolves the error for me. Although I had previously cleared this option in Printing Preferences, the solution seems to be clearing this option in the Printing Defaults.

    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/617432

. On Win7 x64 with FM8 and Acrobat 9 Pro, this resolved the issue for me:

1. Click the Start menu, and then click Devices and Printers
2. Right-click the Adobe PDF printer, then click Printing Preferences, and then deselect Rely on system fonts only; do not use document fonts
3. Click OK
4. Right-click the Adobe PDF printer, then click Printer Properties, then click the Advanced tab, and then click Printing Defaults
5. On the Adobe PDF Settings tab, deselect Rely on system fonts only; do not use document fonts, and then click OK.
6. On the Adobe PDF Properties dialog, click OK

Hope this helps,
Tom

I may have stumbled on this problem as well, although I am now completely confused.

On Monday, I tried to install the Acrobat 10 trial and had issues as I didn’t uninstall Acrobat 9 first. After I uninstalled Acrobat 10 and repaired the Acrobat 9 installation, I could no longer do anything with PDFs in FrameMaker. This includes Print Book as FM9 doesn’t seem to recognize Distiller, although Distiller is really still there and opens just fine.

Before I reinstalled anything, I was planning to contact the List to see what order I should do things in (ie, which comes first Acrobat or Frame reinstall?).

Given Laura’s issue, maybe my issue has nothing to do with my Acrobat problems and actually relates to the Windows updates – or not!

Does anyone have any thoughts?

FM 9 Version: 9.0p255
Unstructured
OS: Windows 7, 64 bit

Has anyone else had problems with creating PDFs from Framemaker since the weekend?
There appear to have been 3 Windows updates on Sunday evening and since then I can’t Save as PDF.

I’m using Frame 8 on Windows 7.

I am now resorting to trying to save as a ps and then distilling, like I used to do in the dim and distant past...

If anyone has any ideas, that would be great. I have tried using System restore but for some reason it keeps failing no matter which point I choose.

Many thanks
Laura
