Absolutely correct. And not just the Marker and Find dialogs -- the Conditional Text, Hypertext, and Equations dialogs were also modeless, along with the designers, catalogs, and Tools Palette. All could be left open on a second monitor or to one side of the FM window on a large-enough single monitor.
The major problem with the stepping-through-markers workflow Jeremy mentions is the tiny text in the (non-resizable) Marker dialog box, which requires excellent vision to distinguish colons from semicolons. Fortunately, excellent indexing tool alternatives like IXGen and Index Tools Pro took care of that problem (and added a great deal of additional functionality as well).
